This was the poster for Hybrid's most recent exhibition 'COLOUR' at centrespace gallery in September 2023. It shows our first collaborative work based on colour squares made by the six of us which we felt was successful. [see 'Current Work']
In January '24 we met for a Hybrid review to celebrate but also to look at what had been going well and what hadn't.
Since then sadly, Judith has decided to leave Hybrid to pursue her own work elsewhere. She and her very engaging, beautiful, bird and animal prints will be missed.
We remaining five are now taking stock and reviewing our process before deciding in which direction we would like to move next. More collaborative work perhaps? new members ? ? ? watch this space . . . .

HYBRID 2020 –‘migration’ at centrespace gallery Bristol
Our 2020 exhibition was on the theme of Migration and included work in paint, print, pen and ink, mixed media and ceramics.Like everyone our lives and plans for 2020 were significantly disrupted by the COVID 19 pandemic-meaning we met on Zoom for planning meetings, there was no preview and we adapted the way the exhibition was viewed by visitors to the gallery in line with government advice on social distancing.
Similarly, in relation to our theme of ’ migration’ our work necessarily reflected unfolding events and a changing social and political context. Our starting point was to explore the theme sensitively- mindful of the fact that the word migration means more than simply ‘the movement of people or animals and birds from one place to another’, but is also unavoidably linked with the distressing and challenging political context for many migrant workers, immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
This multi-dimensional view of migration was reflected both explicitly and implicitly in the range of work exhibited which included work on, borders, home and personal family history as well as the migratory journeys of people, animals and birds.
Visitors comments about the show were without exception positive . Many people seemed inspired and also grateful to be at a real live cultural event after such a difficult year for the Arts .
"So lovely to come and see such a vibrant and thought provoking exhibition. many thanks!"
