JUDITH DUCKER

Judith is an artist and art psychotherapist based in Bristol. Between 1982 - 1985, she studied fine art at Norwich School of Art. In 1987 and after a short period working with children and young people, she trained as an art psychotherapist at Hertfordshire College of Art and Design (now University of Hertfordshire) . She currently works as an art psychotherapist with children, young people and families in a charitable organisation and with adults in the NHS. She is a member of Bath Artists Printmakers (BAP) where she follows through most of her artwork.

I am frequently drawn to making images of birds and mammals, using the narrative and choosing certain animals as metaphors to express life situations. In addition, I like how the play of light, falling on certain objects and particular places can add beauty, mystery and atmosphere which I like to bring into my imagery. I employ spontaneous, childlike approaches and often to combine various printmaking techniques such as drypoint, mono printing and collagraph. I enjoy the elements of chance that these processes involve which further influence my ideas.

Currently, I am working towards a series of prints depicting migrating birds. This is in preparation for our next Hybrid group exhibition planned for the autumn of 2020, themed ‘Migration’. I am exploring a ’bird’s eye view’ of this instinctive and incredible survival process in order to deepen my understanding and quench my curiosity.
